摘要
Neutron stars are very dense stellar objects whose mass is about 1.2 solar mass contained in a very limited volume of less than 12 km radius. They represent the final stage of the evolution of massive stars, and their properties are closely tied to the physics of nuclear systems. In this talk we will examine the structure of the inner crust, a region of the star where the density varies from 1/1000 to ½ of the nuclear saturation density. As in other studies the inner crust is modelized by Wigner-Seitz cells containing a certain number of protons, neutrons and delocalized electrons, but unlike most studies we use finite range effective interactions (Gogny-type force and M3Y-related effective force of Nakada) to generate the self-consistent nuclear mean fields and to describe also the pairing correlations. The results will be presented and discussed.

Prof.N.V. Giai is one of pioneers in developing the nuclear many-body theory. His well-quoted works include the relativistic Hartree-Fock approach for finite nuclei, relativistic random phase approximations for giant resonances, and non-relativistic approaches for various many-body systems as well. His current research activity covers mainly two fields where he is involved in theoretical studies: 1)Structure of unstable nuclei studied in a microscopic approach (non-relativistic and relativistic mean field, random phase approximation for particles and quasiparticles; 2)Effects of nuclear structure on the physics of neutron stars. He has authored and coauthored more than 250 publications. He is also an excellent organizer for many international collaborations and conferences. In recent years, he has pushed and operated a few Sino-French scientific collaboration programs.
