学术报告摘要:
During the seminar, I will present a talk entitled “Standard and abnormal events in optical fibers”. The goal is to stimulate broad interest in optics and nonlinear optics. At first, I introduce the propagation of light signals in a modern optical communication system. I show what usually happens to pulses during the propagation, in particular how pulses can be distorted in presence of group velocity dispersion in fibers. Next, I present the existence of peculiar waves that can be excited exploiting the nonlinear response of the fibers: solitons, Peregrine solitons, breathers, and shock waves.
